Eats Transformers for breakfast

Well! Wasn't that just special?

Sun Jan 6, 2008, 10:52 PM
The Weather Channel. It lies. Through its teeth. Foul, stinky lies.

Why? Well, they said we were going to get some snow this weekend. They didn't make a big deal out of it. Said we might get 10 inches out of the deal, which for here isn't that big of a whoopdedoo. Guess how much snow we got?

Oh, only about three feet. That's a meter for you non-US folks. Was not fun to shovel it because it was wet snow and therefore very, very heavy. My back is killing me. I think I pinched something. I do not think God intended women over forty to be manually moving cubic meters of snow at a time, noooooo.... But of course since it's the weekend, there were no convenient teenage boys around. They've got more work to do tomorrow, though, because us weak 40+ women couldn't get it all done without breaking something.

Also, to add insult to injury, our electricity went out. Yesterday. At about 5PM. It just came on today. At 8PM. 24+ hours of no electricity (and therefore no heat and no hot water) is not fun. We had to resort to using the oven, which thankfully is gas-powered, to heat the house. Luckily for us, we did not die of carbon monoxide poisoning. The snakes were not happy campers. We were not happy campers. All of the food that was in the fridge is now outside, buried in the snow. We have to go outside and dig for milk. We'll bring it in tomorrow, but for now the fridge isn't cold enough to keep anything cold, much less frozen.

So, my weekend was shot. Hope everyone else's was better. To console myself, I'm going to go do some coloring now. :)

If life give's you lemons trow them to people xD
Oh dear! Not a fun weekend! It's times like this I wish I lived closer to some of my online friends -- I'd have dragged my brothers over to help shovel you out. Then hung out and kept you company while the power was out -- isn't there a saying that misery loves company?

Hope things look up for you soon. *sends many :hug:s and hot cocoa.*

Q: How many Transformers fans does it take to change a light bulb?

A: Eight. One to change it, and the rest to complain that the light bulb was so much better back in the 80s.

I support well-written, in-character fanfic!
Yikes! Sounds extremely unpleasant. I've been through a few blizzards myself (it's hard to avoid living here) including ones with significant power outages, so I sympathize. Especially with reptiles to take care of. Are they okay? We only have the one snake, but it'd be very difficult to keep her warm enough without power.

Take it easy, and if you can, don't do any more shovelling. I've known too many people who've badly injured themselves doing that.

There are freaky things going on here.... indeed.

Sounds like our weather forcasters too. Supposed to be a huge mess from Thursday through Sunday morning, but it didn't start until Friday night, with a nasty power outage inbetween and here it is Sunday night and its still raining (not that I mind the rain... we do need it). But life would be awesome if I could walk outside and look outside and state the obvious for a living. LOL.

"Does anybody read these things?"
A metre of snow? Wow. I don't think I've ever experienced a snowfall where we got that much at once. It did snow where I live over the weekend too, but only 20cm or so. I'm feeling the shovelling though, since I haven't had to shovel snow in over two years (maintenance does it for you in college, and when I was home for holidays we got no snow.) Hope you find all the food you buried.
At least it's better than my city's local newspaper. They can never get the weather right.

I'm strange and weird..... I'm an artist; I can get away with it!!!
3 feet. Wow, I'm still waiting for our big dump. One foot doesn't qualify and that's all we've had. Shoveling is the pits but fortunately, my hubby likes to do it. I'm stuck with the leaves because he's allergic to the mold that grows in wet leaves.

I think I'd rather do piles and piles of leaves than shoveling heavy wet snow. :p So you guys haven't gotten your big 6-foot snowfall of the season yet, huh? Well, all this moisture we got and are still getting came from California, so maybe it'll make it all the way over to you and give you a nice lake effect dump. Bet hubby's itching to do some digging, right? :)
I guess weather will always be one of those things that's sometimes just totally unpredictable, no matter how sophisticated our computers get. I guess I should be thankful that they were right that we'd get snow. Usually when they're yelling about getting a dumping we get nothing. So I guess it makes sense that when we end up with a dumping, the forecasters are all blase about it. Stealth blizzard! :)
