Artist's Comments

When I lived in northeastern Pennsylvania, my favorite season was fall because it was so darned pretty. The west isn't known as well for its fall color, but here in Southwest Colorado there is indeed some prettiness for a short period of time. So, I took some pictures on my drive home today. I actually wanted to take them on my way in to work because the sun is in a better place then...but it was thunderstorming this morning, so afternoon it is. :)

The prettiest thing about the fall color here is the contrast between the golden aspens and the green of the conifers, mostly Ponderosa pine and some kind of fir, with a little bit of brown and orange thrown in by scrub oak. This pic shows the contrast fairly well, for all that I was battling the sun angle. It was taken along La Plata County Road 240 between Durango and Lemon Dam. It's kind of the last gasp of the aspens, so I figured I'd better take pics while I could.

Please excuse the power line running through the pic; I'm just not in the mood to Photoshop it out this evening. :)
